Tom Bailey, co-founder of the iconic ’80s band Thompson Twins, recently joined Kyle Meredith to commemorate the 40th anniversary of their seminal album “Into The Gap” and discuss his participation in this summer’s Totally Tubular Festival. The festival, a haven for ’80s alternative music enthusiasts, will feature Bailey co-headlining with Thomas Dolby. The lineup also includes notable acts such as Modern English, Men Without Hats, The Romantics, Bow Wow Wow, Tommy Tutone, and The Plimsouls.
Bailey revisited the band’s hectic album release schedule during the ’80s, elaborating on their evolution as pop songwriters and the mixed critical reception they sometimes encountered. He fondly recalled the 1994 album “The Stone,” released under the moniker Babble, which represented a significant shift in their musical direction and a return to the underground scene.
In addition to reflecting on the past, Bailey commented on the contemporary rock scene’s diminished social impact and emphasized the need for nonconformist, outsider art. He also discussed the numerous remixes of the band’s work and the new anniversary editions of their classic albums, ensuring their music continues to resonate with both longtime fans and new listeners.
