Sound has always played a pivotal role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), from the thunderous blasts of Iron Man’s repulsors to the mystical hum of Doctor Strange’s portals. Now, IMAX and DTS are teaming up to delve into the intricate world of sound design that enhances the Marvel Studios movie experience.
As part of the esteemed DTS Craft Masters series, IMAX and DTS recently engaged in a revealing discussion with Marvel post-production executives Evan Jacobs and Chris Russell. They shed light on how meticulous sound engineering shapes the distinctive auditory landscape of Marvel films.
“At Marvel, our foremost objective is storytelling,” Russell emphasizes. “Immersive technologies like IMAX and DTS play a crucial role in achieving that goal. Often, people underestimate the profound impact sound can have on their cinematic journey.”
An exciting development for fans is the availability of select Marvel Studios films on Disney+ with IMAX Enhanced sound. This enhancement promises viewers an immersive theater-like experience from the comfort of their homes.
“DTS technology offers something truly unique,” Russell explains. “When you watch a film in IMAX at the theater, you experience a specially crafted IMAX mix. DTS allows us to replicate this enhanced theatrical experience directly in your home environment.”
Disney+ subscribers can now enjoy 18 Marvel Studios films with IMAX Enhanced sound. The lineup includes fan favorites such as Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, Avengers: Endgame, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and many more.
This initiative underscores Marvel Studios’ commitment to delivering unparalleled cinematic experiences, where cutting-edge technology converges with compelling storytelling to captivate audiences worldwide.
