Marvel’s “Agatha” Spinoff Promises Scares and Drama

by Barbara

Marvel’s upcoming “WandaVision” spinoff series, “Agatha,” is set to be “really scary,” according to Brad Winderbaum, Marvel Studios’ head of streaming, television, and animation. In a recent appearance on the “Official Marvel Podcast” (via The Playlist), Winderbaum revealed that the series will blend fun and fright, transitioning from playful to terrifying as it unfolds.

“‘Agatha’ is really fun, but it’s really scary. And it gets quite dramatic,” Winderbaum teased. “She’s an amazing anti-hero. It lures you in with the fun of Halloween, and before you know it, you’re crying.”

“It’s a Marvel brand of scary. It’s a Halloween show,” he added. “There are deadly stakes in this series. It’s a fun ride, but it’s a dangerous one.”

Kathryn Hahn returns to lead the series, reprising her Emmy-nominated role of Agatha Harkness. While plot details are being kept under wraps, the series is set to debut on Disney+ on September 18. Hahn is joined by Joe Locke, Patti LuPone, Aubrey Plaza, Sasheer Zamata, Ali Ahn, and Debra Jo Rupp. “Agatha” picks up after the events of “WandaVision,” where Agatha Harkness was left powerless by Scarlet Witch, aka Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen). Jac Schaeffer, the showrunner for “WandaVision,” is behind the spinoff.

Winderbaum also touched on the upcoming limited series “Daredevil: Born Again,” which marks the full-fledged return of Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock. Cox had previously made brief appearances in MCU projects like “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” “Echo,” and “She-Hulk.”

“These characters have matured. The universe is different than it was,” Winderbaum explained. “Things have changed. Society has changed. Matt [Murdock] and Wilson [Fisk] have changed, and their characters are going to collide in ways we’ve never seen before. It’s no longer enough to try to murder each other. There’s a whole game of politics at play.”
