Pixar Animation Studios is on the brink of a historic achievement with their latest blockbuster, “Inside Out 2,” poised to become the highest-grossing animated film of all time worldwide. As of this weekend, the film has amassed a staggering $1,442.3 million globally, just shy of surpassing “Frozen II’s” record-setting $1,454 million.
Directed by Kelsey Mann and executive produced by Pixar chief Pete Docter, “Inside Out 2” has already claimed the 15th spot among the highest-grossing releases worldwide, surpassing Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron” ($1,405 million). It is now eyeing the 14th spot currently held by “Barbie” ($1,446 million), a milestone expected to be achieved in the coming days. Notably, the film has yet to debut in Japan, where it is scheduled for release on August 1.
In the U.S., another animated juggernaut, Illumination’s “Despicable Movie 4,” secured the second spot with a weekend gross of $23.8 million, bringing its domestic total to a robust $259.4 million. Globally, the film has grossed $574.4 million, with anticipated releases in Italy and Korea still to come.
Meanwhile, the weekend’s top-grossing film overall was Universal/Warner Bros./Amblin’s live-action sequel, “Twisters,” which stormed theaters with an impressive $123.2 million worldwide. Directed by Lee Isaac Chung and featuring groundbreaking visual effects supervised by Florian Witzel, Charles Lai, and Bill Georgiou, with Ben Snow as Production VFX Supervisor, “Twisters” has set a new benchmark in cinematic spectacle.
As “Inside Out 2” inches closer to rewriting box office history, Pixar and its creative team prepare for a celebration worthy of their monumental achievement in animation.
