Josh Brolin Expresses Regret Over Absence from Latest ‘Deadpool’ Film

by Barbara

Josh Brolin has openly discussed his absence from the latest installment in the Deadpool franchise, revealing his disappointment over not being invited back to reprise his role as Cable. Despite playing the character in Deadpool 2, Brolin was not included in the newest film, which diverges from the traditional Deadpool series.

The new movie, Deadpool & Wolverine, features Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, with Jackman returning to his iconic role as Wolverine. This follows his apparent retirement from the character in the 2017 film Logan. Brolin, who learned about his exclusion from the film when he noticed his name listed on IMDb, expressed his desire to be part of the project.

Recently, while promoting his canceled Prime Video series Outer Range, Brolin commented on his absence, saying, “Marvel is a more complex labyrinth than Outer Range will ever be, my friend. And I will never know where that went or what that is or what I’m involved with or what I’m not involved with – the MCU being so involved now.” He added, “Cable was a lot of fun. I really liked doing that role. That was a lot of fun.”

Brolin, who also portrayed the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) villain Thanos, did not return for this new entry, which marks the first Deadpool film released under the MCU umbrella. Director Shawn Levy has described Deadpool & Wolverine as a “two-hander,” focusing on the dynamic between the two titular characters. Levy emphasized that the film aims to stand apart from the previous Deadpool movies, creating a unique adventure for fans.

The film has quickly become a major hit, offering a welcome boost to Marvel after the underwhelming performances of The Marvels and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania. Deadpool & Wolverine will also be Marvel’s sole theatrical release for 2024. However, the upcoming year promises a return to Marvel’s usual output, with Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts, and a reboot of Fantastic Four on the slate.

Anthony Mackie and Harrison Ford are set to lead Captain America: Brave New World, while Thunderbolts will also feature Ford alongside Florence Pugh. The reboot of Fantastic Four will star Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, with Pascal and Kirby’s on-screen chemistry already generating buzz among fans.
