Blumhouse Productions’ cinematic adaptation of the popular video game “Five Nights at Freddy’s” has emerged as their highest-grossing film to date, surpassing various acclaimed titles with a total of $295 million from theatrical and streaming releases. Following this success, a sequel is now in the works, set for a December 5, 2025, theatrical release. Matthew Lillard, a returning cast member from the original film, has recently confirmed that filming will commence in October of this year.
The cast of “Five Nights at Freddy’s” includes notable names such as Josh Hutcherson, Mary Stuart Masterson, Elizabeth Lail, Piper Rubio, and Kat Conner Sterling. The storyline centers around a security guard navigating the challenges at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, where eerie animatronic characters come to life after hours.
Stunt performers Kevin Foster, Jade Kindar-Martin, and Jess Weiss portray the animatronics Freddy Fazbear, Bonnie, and Chica respectively, with speculation surrounding additional characters like Toy Chica and Mangle for the upcoming sequel.
Originally developed under Warner Bros., the project eventually found its home at Blumhouse under the direction of Emma Tammi, known for her work on “The Wind” and various projects in the “Into the Dark” series. The screenplay, co-written by Tammi with Seth Cuddeback and video game creator Scott Cawthon, promises to capture the chilling essence of the game’s premise.
Produced by Blumhouse in association with Striker Entertainment, “Five Nights at Freddy’s” has leveraged the expertise of Jim Henson’s Creature Shop for its intricate animatronic effects, enhancing the menacing allure of the characters.
