The Democratic National Convention in Chicago this week will feature a format akin to an awards show, with four distinct hosts for each night. Kerry Washington, Tony Goldwyn, Mindy Kaling, and Ana Navarro will take the reins each evening. Washington will host the final night when Vice President Kamala Harris is expected to accept the Democratic presidential nomination, following her official nomination on August 6.
Goldwyn will host Monday, Navarro on Tuesday, and Kaling on Wednesday, with each providing introductions and anchoring throughout the night. The convention’s nightly themes are: “For the People” on Monday, “A Bold Vision for America’s Future” on Tuesday, “A Fight for Our Freedoms” on Wednesday, and “For Our Future” on Thursday.
All four hosts have expressed support for the Democratic Party. Washington, known for her role in Scandal, previously hosted the 2020 convention’s third night. Goldwyn, also a Scandal star, has supported Joe Biden, while Kaling and Harris collaborated on a 2020 video. Navarro, a Republican co-host of The View, has recently aligned more closely with the Democratic side.
Keynote speakers for Monday night will include President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden. Convention Chair Minyon Moore emphasized the event’s role in showcasing the achievements and future plans of the Harris-Walz ticket, contrasting it with former President Donald Trump’s focus on personal interests.
Additional speakers include former Presidents Barack Obama and Bill Clinton, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, and former First Lady Michelle Obama.
