New York rapper Ice Spice will headline this year’s Rhythm and Vines festival, marking the first major announcement for the four-day New Year’s event. Organizers unveiled the lineup on Tuesday, featuring an array of international talent including UK garage and house producer Sammy Virji, Italian electronic supergroup Meduza, British electronic duo Koven, and American record producer RL Grime.
Local performers include Sir Dave Dobbyn, Sachi, Messie, and the debut of award-winning group Corrella. This year’s festival, set for its 22nd edition, will take place at Waiohika Estate on the East Coast. The event opens to campers on December 28 and officially kicks off on December 29, running through to the first sunrise of January 1.
Following last year’s event, police issued warnings about drink-driving issues, though no arrests were made on-site. Organizers also faced criticism in 2022 for including Dizzee Rascal in the lineup despite his conviction for domestic violence.
