CM Punk, known outside of the wrestling world as Phil Brooks, is set to venture into acting with a role in the comedy film Let’s Start a Cult, directed by Ben Kitnick. Although specific details about his role remain undisclosed, this marks another step in Punk’s expanding acting career. Recently, Punk joined Paradigm Talent Agency, following a trend among WWE stars seeking diverse opportunities.
The film’s synopsis reads: “After missing his cult’s long-awaited ritual suicide, an obnoxious loser and his former messiah partner attempt to rebuild their doomsday commune. As they travel through Middle America, they recruit a military enthusiast, a troubled mother, and a mysterious hitchhiker. The question remains: will this group of misfits achieve their ultimate destiny, or will they find new reasons to embrace life?”
The cast includes comedian Stavros Halkias, Wes Haney, Eric Rahill, Katy Fullan, and Daniel Simonsen, with Joe Pera, Ethan Suplee, and Tom Papa making guest appearances.
Punk’s acting credits include Maron, Girl on the Third Floor, Rabid, Jakob’s Wife, and the STARZ series Heels, which is moving to Netflix next month. After returning to AEW in 2021, Punk’s wrestling career faced challenges, including a recent injury and a heated feud with WWE’s Drew McIntyre. Their ongoing rivalry will continue at WWE’s Bash in Berlin next weekend, with a new stipulation for their match.
Let’s Start a Cult will premiere in theaters on October 25th.
