A new documentary, Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story, directed by Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui, delves into the remarkable life and career of the acclaimed actor. The film features previously unreleased interview clips and behind-the-scenes footage, offering a comprehensive look at Reeve’s journey.
The documentary presents an intimate and inspiring account of Reeve’s transformation from Hollywood star to disability activist. It includes a rich tapestry of archival footage, home movies, and interviews with friends and family, alongside contributions from Reeve himself, narrated from his 1999 autobiography, Still Me. The film also highlights the enduring presence of Reeve’s close friend, Robin Williams.
Super/Man received a standing ovation at its Sundance premiere, praised for its complex and empathetic portrayal of Reeve’s post-accident struggles and his advocacy for disability rights. The documentary aims to shine a light on both the personal challenges Reeve faced and the broader issues within the disabled community.
The film will premiere in the U.S. on Saturday, September 21, with additional screenings on September 25, Reeve’s birthday. UK audiences can look forward to seeing it in cinemas starting November 1.
