“Terminator Zero” Reimagined as Brutal Anime Series for Netflix

by Barbara

The “Terminator” franchise is being reimagined in a dark new direction with Netflix’s upcoming anime series, “Terminator Zero.” Created by Mattson Tomlin, known for his work on “Project Power” and contributions to “The Batman – Part II,” this series promises a gritty and intense take on the iconic franchise.

The eight-episode series follows a warrior from a dystopian future who travels to 1997 to protect an AI scientist from a relentless cyborg. The voice cast includes Timothy Olyphant, André Holland, Rosario Dawson, Ann Dowd, and Sonoya Mizuno. Tomlin is the showrunner, executive producer, and writer, with Masashi Kudo directing. Skydance’s David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger are also executive producers, and Production IG is the animation studio.

The story is set in a world where a long-standing war between human survivors and machines escalates when Skynet becomes self-aware. A soldier is sent back in time to protect Malcolm Lee, a scientist working on a new AI system to counter Skynet. As Lee grapples with the ethics of his creation, his family’s fate becomes intertwined with the future assassin pursuing him.
