Fuse Releases First-ever Documentary About Transgender Mma Fighter

by Barbara

Latino-owned Fuse Media, recognized for its commitment to inclusive entertainment, is set to make its film industry debut with the theatrical release of the ViX original documentary Unfightable. Directed and produced by Emmy Award-winner Marc J. Perez and produced by La Jaula Studios, the film highlights the compelling journey of Alana McLaughlin, a U.S. Army Special Forces Sergeant and transgender athlete who battles both in the MMA ring and for her personal narrative.

The documentary’s relevance has heightened in light of recent online harassment faced by Olympic female athletes Imane Khelif of Algeria and Li Yu-ting of Taiwan, who were subjected to accusations of being men following their victories.

Unfightable will debut with a one-week theatrical run in New York starting September 13 at the Village East Theater, followed by a week in Los Angeles at Laemmle Noho 7. Tickets for these screenings will be available shortly. After its theatrical run, the documentary will be available for exclusive world television debut in Spanish on ViX, the leading Spanish-language streaming service, and in English on Fuse in the upcoming months.

Marc J. Perez, the documentary’s director, expressed his deep connection to the project, stating, “Alana’s story was so incredibly moving that La Jaula Studios had to be the one to tell it to the world.”

Unfightable chronicles Alana McLaughlin’s journey as she navigates the challenges of being a transgender woman in professional MMA—a sport often resistant to transgender athletes. The film delves into her difficult upbringing, service in the U.S. Special Forces, transition, and the supportive community she found in Portland, Oregon. Through her story, Unfightable sheds light on the ongoing struggle for transgender athletes’ rights to compete at the professional level.
