The indie film “Kneecap,” which offers a vibrant portrayal of the eponymous Irish hip hop trio, is set for a major theatrical re-release. Distributed by Sony Pictures Classics, the film has already achieved notable box office success, earning over $1 million in the U.S. and nearly $2 million in the U.K., where the band has a dedicated following.
The film will be screened in 154 theaters across the United States starting this weekend. This renewed push coincides with the band’s U.S. tour in support of their latest album, “Fine Art.” The tour will feature performances in major cities including Philadelphia, New York, Boston, Chicago, Louisville, and Washington, D.C.
The film stars the band members themselves—Naoise Ó Cairealláin (Móglaí Bap), Liam Óg Ó Hannaidh (Mo Chara), and JJ Ó Dochartaigh (Dj Provaí)—alongside actors Michael Fassbender, Josie Walker, Fionnuala Flaherty, Jessica Reynolds, Adam Best, and Simone Kirby. “Kneecap” has also been selected as Ireland’s official entry for the Academy Award for Best International Feature this year.
The re-release will target prominent markets such as Universal City, Phoenix, San Diego, Miami, Orlando, Atlanta, Chicago, New Orleans, Boston, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Dublin (Ohio), Tulsa, Knoxville, Houston, New York, and San Francisco.
“Kneecap” was crafted by writer-director Peppiatt, alongside co-writers Ó Cairealláin, Óg Ó Hannaidh, and Ó Dochartaigh. The film was produced by Trevor Birney and Jack Tarling.
