Disappointing Box Office Opening for ‘The Buckingham Murders’

by Barbara

Hansal Mehta’s latest investigative thriller, “The Buckingham Murders,” featuring Kareena Kapoor in her production debut, has had a lackluster start at the domestic box office. On its opening day, the film garnered a modest ₹1.15 crore. The film was released in both its original Hinglish version and a dubbed Hindi version, but the report does not provide a breakdown of earnings by language.

As the sole new Bollywood release this week, “The Buckingham Murders” faced competition from re-released films such as “Tumbbad” and “Veer-Zaara,” as well as from enduring hits like “Stree 2,” which continues to perform well.

In comparison to Kareena Kapoor’s earlier film, “The Crew,” which was a heist comedy and co-produced by Ekta Kapoor’s Balaji Motion Pictures, “The Buckingham Murders” has underperformed. “The Crew” achieved an impressive opening day collection of over ₹10 crore, significantly outperforming Kapoor’s current project.

“The Buckingham Murders” centers on Sergeant Jasmeet ‘Jass’ Bhamra, played by Kapoor, who is grappling with the grief of losing her young son, Ekam. The plot follows her investigation into the disappearance of a boy named Ishpreet, who is of a similar age to her deceased child. The cast also includes celebrity chef Ranveer Brar.

A review commends Kapoor’s performance, highlighting her emotional depth and ability to convey pain and anger effectively. The review notes that Kapoor’s portrayal is a departure from her previous roles, showcasing her versatility as an actress.

Looking ahead, Kareena Kapoor is set to appear in Rohit Shetty’s forthcoming film, “Singham Again,” expected later this year.
