This year marks the 50th anniversary of Tobe Hooper’s iconic horror film, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre. In celebration, Dark Sky Films is re-releasing the film in select theaters for the Halloween season.
The film has been restored in stunning 4K, under the supervision of the late Tobe Hooper, and will be showcased on the big screen throughout October. To accompany this re-release, Dark Sky Films has unveiled a new 50th anniversary trailer, crafted by renowned trailer editor Mark Woollen.
Dark Sky Films describes the film’s impact: “Fifty years ago, five youths on a weekend getaway in the Texas countryside fell prey to a butcher in a mask made of human skin and his cannibalistic family. Horror cinema would never be the same. Violent, confrontational, and shockingly realistic, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre terrified audiences in ways never thought possible when it premiered in 1974, amid a politically and socially tumultuous America. Facing a storm of controversy, censorship, and outcry, this horror masterpiece has endured, becoming a landmark motion picture and cultural milestone.”
Additionally, Dark Sky Films is releasing a special “50th Anniversary Chainsaw Edition” set, featuring the film on 4K Ultra HD and a brand new VHS tape, all packaged in collectible chainsaw-shaped casing.
