The Louth International Film Festival 2024 will commence this Friday in Dundalk, featuring the acclaimed film An Irish Angel as one of its opening day highlights.
The screening is set for 3:35 PM at the IMC Cinema in Dundalk, where representatives from Empire Productions will be present alongside several cast members. Producers believe the film will make a significant impact as the festival’s opening feature.
An Irish Angel stars Jaime Winstone, known for her roles in Kidulthood, Made in Dagenham, and Wild Bill, as well as Julian Glover, celebrated for his performances in Game of Thrones, James Bond, and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. Both actors are expected to attend the screening.
Written and directed by Danny Patrick, a former resident of Derry City now based in London, the film was primarily shot in Derry, with additional scenes filmed in Portrush and Louth, specifically around Muirhevnamor Park.
The story follows Aine (played by Niamh James), a secondary school student from a challenging background living in Portrush, Northern Ireland. Aine navigates her life with her mother Margaret, a local office cleaner, and her grandmother Agnes, who has been diagnosed with terminal cancer. Winstone portrays Ellie, Aine’s teacher and confidante, while Glover plays Father Reitel, a family friend.
Tickets for An Irish Angel and all events at this year’s festival can be purchased online.
