The comedic slasher film Get Away, directed by Steffen Haars (Krazy House), has been acquired by IFC Films and Shudder, with the trailer launching this week. Formerly titled Svalta, the film is set to hit theaters on December 6, 2024, with a streaming release on Shudder anticipated for 2025.
Written by and starring Nick Frost (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz), Get Away follows a family vacationing on a remote island who soon discover that a serial killer is on the loose. Compounding their troubles, the locals seem unwilling to assist the stranded family.
“I’m thrilled Get Away has found a home at IFC Films and Shudder, alongside the constant support and collaboration with Wayward Entertainment and the gang at XYZ. It’s such a good fit and a real relief knowing that Get Away is in such safe hands. I can’t wait for you to finally see it in theaters!” Frost stated.
Director Steffen Haars expressed his excitement, saying, “I am super hyped that Get Away found its perfect partner in IFC Films and Shudder to bring the film to North American audiences. We can’t wait to invite everyone on this killer trip with the Smith family to the unwelcome island of Svälta.”
Emily Gotto from Shudder described the film as “a laugh-out-loud comedy that pours several buckets of blood onto a family’s sweet vacation in Sweden. This hilarious thrill ride will stir up laughs and scares in equal measure.” Gotto praised Nick Frost’s comedic horror expertise, highlighting the film’s strong ensemble cast and Haars’ playful direction.
In addition to Frost, the cast includes Aisling Bea (This Way Up), Sebastian Croft (Heartstopper), and Maisie Ayres.
