Sideshow and Janus Films have unveiled the official U.S. trailer for the animated feature “Flow,” created by Latvian filmmaker Gints Zilbalodis. This film marks Zilbalodis’s second feature, following his 2019 release, “Away.” “Flow” premiered at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival earlier this year and received significant acclaim, winning the Audience Award, Jury Prize, and Best Original Score at the Annecy Film Festival.
“Flow” is a visually stunning, dialogue-free film that explores themes of survival in a world ravaged by flooding. The story follows a solitary cat whose home is destroyed by a great flood. Seeking refuge on a boat with various other animals, the cat must learn to collaborate with its new companions despite their differences.
The film’s official synopsis from Cannes describes it as taking place in a desolate world marked by remnants of human presence. As the characters navigate mystical, flooded landscapes, they confront the challenges of adapting to their new environment.
Written and directed by Zilbalodis, with a screenplay co-written by Matiss Kaza, “Flow” is produced by Ron Dyens, Matiss Kaza, Gregory Zalcman, and Gints Zilbalodis himself.
“Flow,” also known as “Straume” in Latvian, will be released in select U.S. theaters starting November 22, 2024. The announcement comes with excitement, especially following positive reviews from early screenings, including one from this publication at Cannes.
