Opera enthusiasts are in for a treat as UBC Opera and the Opera West Society join forces to present renowned Mexican tenor Javier Camarena on October 3 at 6 PM in the Old Auditorium. This event is part of the popular “Singer Behind the Song” series.
Camarena, celebrated as the “king of the high Cs,” has graced the stages of every major opera house worldwide. He made his debut at the Metropolitan Opera in 2011 with Il Barbiere di Siviglia and has since distinguished himself as the only artist in the Met’s history to perform encores in three different productions. His remarkable talent has also earned him accolades in Madrid, Barcelona, and London.
During the performance, Camarena will showcase his rich, warm timbre through song, followed by an intimate interview. This segment will provide audiences with a unique opportunity to engage with the celebrated tenor, who was honored as the Male Singer of the Year at the International Opera Awards in 2021.
