As Halloween approaches, Peacock is set to thrill its subscribers with the premiere of the horror series “Hysteria!” The newly released trailer hints at a gripping narrative centered around satanic panic, featuring a local metal band entangled in dark events.
Directed by Jonathan Goldstein, known for “Dungeons & Dragons” and “Game Night,” “Hysteria!” follows the mysterious disappearance of a beloved varsity quarterback during the late 1980s Satanic Panic. A struggling heavy metal band, composed of high school outcasts, seizes the opportunity to exploit the town’s newfound fascination with the occult. However, their plan spirals out of control as a series of bizarre murders, kidnappings, and claims of supernatural activity lead to a leather-clad witch hunt aimed squarely at them.
The eight-episode inaugural season boasts an impressive cast, including Julie Bowen (“Modern Family”), Anna Camp (“Pitch Perfect”), and genre legend Bruce Campbell (“The Evil Dead”) as the town sheriff. Other notable actors include Emjay Anthony, Chiara Aurelia, Kezii Curtis, and Nikki Hahn.
Executive producers and writers Mathew Scott Kane and David A. Goodman commented, “What are those kids up to? Whatever it is, it can’t be good.” This sentiment echoes throughout generations, highlighting the ongoing fears parents have regarding youth rebellion.
“Hysteria!” delves into the duality of generational anxieties, capturing the thrill of youth and the chilling realization of an ever-shifting world. The creators hope that families can share the series’ thrills, laughter, and heartfelt moments together—reminding viewers that both growing up and parenting can be daunting experiences.
