Trailer Release for ‘The Unraveling’: A Gripping Psychological Horror

by Barbara

Entertainment Squad has unveiled the trailer for The Unraveling, set to premiere on-demand and digital platforms everywhere on October 8. The film falls under the genre label of The Horror Collective and is directed by Kd Amond.

This psychological thriller marks the latest collaboration from the filmmaking team AZ if Productions, serving as a non-sequel follow-up to their previous work, Faye, which made history as America’s first one-woman feature-length horror film. Sarah Zanotti, who co-wrote The Unraveling, also stars as the lead character.

The Unraveling presents a chilling exploration of themes such as trauma, paranoia, guilt, and love through the lens of horror. The narrative follows a woman who, following a traumatic brain injury from a car accident, becomes convinced that her husband has been replaced by an impostor. As she grapples with a gruesome presence and mysterious phone calls from someone claiming to be her “real” husband, she descends into a nightmarish world filled with fear, deception, and uncertainty regarding her own sanity.

The film has already received critical acclaim for its atmospheric direction and powerful performances. Ivotres Littles from Horror Movies and Beyond described it as “a dark, twisted story of a love that comes with a price,” while Preston Fassel of Fangoria and Daily Grindhouse called it “moving, thoughtful, and poetic…and terrifying.” Tyler Baker of Morbidly Beautiful praised the film as “a stunning, wonderfully surprising thriller” that kept him engaged until its shocking conclusion.

Zanotti stars alongside Sam Brooks, known for his roles in Netflix’s Fear Street trilogy and CW’s Stargirl. Critics have highlighted Zanotti’s performance, noting her compelling portrayal of the lead character’s descent into madness.

Shaked Berenson, CEO of Entertainment Squad, commented, “The Unraveling combines psychological horror with a poignant narrative, creating a film that is both terrifying and deeply moving. We are thrilled to bring this extraordinary story to audiences worldwide.”

Director Kd Amond added, “With The Unraveling, we aimed to explore the dark and often overlooked aspects of trauma and its effects on the human psyche. Entertainment Squad’s commitment to unique and impactful storytelling makes them the perfect partner for this project.”

Produced by AZ if Productions, co-founded by Amond and Zanotti, the film features striking cinematography by Seth Dunlap, who also plays the ominous Shadow Figure. Bobby LePire of Film Threat praised Zanotti’s performance, stating, “She plays the confusion and perceived threat to her well-being with absolute conviction.”

Film blogger Jason T Sparks remarked, “Amond and Zanotti have created an incredible psychological thriller that even seasoned filmgoers will find overwhelming in the best ways. Each revelation is devastating as the story unfolds.”

In a reflective moment, Zanotti asked, “What happens when the dream you’re chasing suddenly becomes a nightmare? When the man you love suddenly becomes your enemy?” She explained, “The Unraveling is about a woman coming to terms with the horrifying consequences of denial.”

Amond shared insights about the filming process, noting, “Some of the most intense scenes were shot with our small skeleton crew while we were snowed in during a Nashville blizzard on location in a historic house. It added to the intensity, as we felt just as trapped as our protagonist.”

Entertainment Squad will be launching international sales for The Unraveling at the upcoming Toronto International Film Festival. Sebastian Twardosz from Savant Artists negotiated the deal on behalf of AZ if Productions.

The Horror Collective, a genre label under Entertainment Squad, was founded by veteran producer Shaked Berenson, whose previous works include Turbo Kid and Tales of Halloween. The label has recently released critically acclaimed titles such as the Daytime Emmy-nominated limited series Doomsday, the Shudder Original Slaxx, and the horror-comedy Summoning Sylvia.
