Tom Hardy, Helen Mirren, and Pierce Brosnan are in final negotiations to headline the upcoming Paramount+ drama series, The Associate, sources have confirmed. The show, created by acclaimed filmmaker Guy Ritchie, will mark a star-studded reunion, as Hardy previously worked with Ritchie in RocknRolla.
Originally conceived as a spinoff of Showtime’s Ray Donovan titled The Donovans, the series has evolved into its own independent project. It is no longer connected to the Ray Donovan franchise, according to sources, though Paramount+ declined to comment on the matter.
The one-hour drama, produced by Showtime/MTV Studios and 101 Studios, will explore the lives of two generations of gangsters and the dangerous businesses they run. At the heart of the story is the character of Harry, played by Hardy, a fixer who is both charming and lethal. Mirren and Brosnan are expected to play the matriarch and patriarch of the crime family whose fortunes and power are constantly at risk.
The show delves deep into themes of family loyalty, betrayal, and high-stakes alliances, with London’s elite fixers facing unpredictable challenges in their operations. While the family may be among the most powerful in Europe, the future of their empire remains uncertain.
The Associate also marks Mirren’s next project following her role in Taylor Sheridan’s 1923, which recently concluded its second and final season. Both 1923 and The Associate are productions from 101 Studios and MTV Studios. Additionally, Mirren and Brosnan previously co-starred in Netflix’s The Thursday Murder Club, which wrapped filming last month.
Guy Ritchie, who will direct The Associate, serves as an executive producer alongside series writer Ronan Bennett, David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, David Hutkin, and Ivan Atkinson.
