Josh Brolin in Final Negotiations for Paramount’s “The Running Man”

Josh Brolin is on the verge of joining Glen Powell in Paramount Pictures’ upcoming adaptation of “The Running Man,” with final negotiations currently underway. Brolin’s involvement comes alongside previously announced cast members Katy O’Brian, known for “Love Lies Bleeding,” and Daniel Ezra from “All American.” The action-packed film is being directed by Edgar Wright.

Brolin revealed this exciting news during a panel discussion at New York Comic-Con.

“The Running Man” is based on the iconic 1982 novel by Stephen King, published under the pseudonym Richard Bachman. The screenplay is co-written by Wright and Michael Bacall, with production led by Simon Kinberg, Nira Park, and Wright. The film is scheduled for release on November 21, 2025, coinciding with the year in which the story is set.

Originally adapted into a feature film in 1987 by director Paul Michael Glaser, the first version starred Arnold Schwarzenegger, María Conchita Alonso, Richard Dawson, Yaphet Kotto, and Jesse Ventura. The narrative unfolds in a dystopian future, focusing on a wrongfully convicted policeman who participates in a brutal game show to earn money for his ailing daughter. To win the game, the “runner” must survive for 30 days while being pursued by lethal hunters.

In addition to “The Running Man,” Brolin will soon be seen in the third installment of the “Knives Out” series, titled “Wake Up Dead Man.” His impressive filmography includes notable roles in “Dune: Part Two,” “True Grit,” “No Country for Old Men,” Ridley Scott’s “American Gangster,” Oliver Stone’s “W.,” Denis Villeneuve’s “Sicario,” Paul Thomas Anderson’s “Inherent Vice,” and various Marvel films. Brolin received an Academy Award nomination for his performance in “Milk.”

Represented by CAA, Johnson, Shapiro, Slewett, Kole, and Relevant, Brolin continues to be a prominent figure in Hollywood’s landscape.
