The global box office for “Joker,” directed by Todd Phillips and starring Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga, has reached $200 million, but the film’s high production and marketing costs mean it is still struggling to break even. The film has made $57.83 million in North America and $143 million overseas.
According to Warner Bros. insiders, the film’s breakeven point is around $375 million, taking into account the $200 million production budget and marketing costs of around $100 million. While the film has now made back its production costs after just 23 days in theaters, it still has a long way to go to become profitable.
Despite the financial challenges, “Joker” has been a critical and commercial success, with Joaquin Phoenix’s performance receiving widespread acclaim and the film breaking records for an R-rated release. It remains to be seen whether it will ultimately turn a profit, but its impressive box office performance so far suggests that audiences are intrigued by its unique take on the iconic character.
