Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi will star in a new film adaptation of Emily Brontë’s famous novel “Wuthering Heights.” Robbie will play Catherine and Elordi will play Heathcliff.
Emerald Fennell (“Saltburn,” “Promising Young Woman”) will direct and write the script. It’s a reunion of familiar faces. The film is planned to start shooting in the UK next year.
“Wuthering Heights” was written by Brontë under the pseudonym Ellis Bell and published a year before her death. Focusing on Yorkshire in northern England in the 18th century, it delves into the tense and destructive relationship between the Earnshaw and Linton families. It tells the passionate and tragic love story between Heathcliff, an orphan adopted by Mr. Earnshaw, and Catherine, Mr. Earnshaw’s daughter.
The book has been adapted for film and television many times before, with film versions released in 1939, 1970, 1992, 2009, and 2011, as well as TV series in 1978 and 1998.
