The Wayans brothers will reunite after 20 years! The reboot of the classic horror film series “Scary Movie” has made significant progress. Sean Wayans and Marlon Wayans are currently writing an original script for the reboot. Previously, Paramount and Miramax announced at the film industry conference that a new rebooted film will be made. Neal H. Moritz (“The Fast and the Furious” series) is serving as the producer.
The “Scary Movie” series was co-created by Marlon Wayans, Sean Wayans, and Keenen Ivory Wayans. Keenen Ivory Wayans wrote and directed the first two films, while Marlon Wayans and Sean Wayans wrote and starred in the first two films. The first “Scary Movie” was released in 2000, grossing $278 million worldwide with a production cost of $19 million. The opening weekend box office was $42.5 million, making it the highest-grossing opening weekend for an R-rated horror film and a film directed by a Black director at that time. Four sequels were later released. The most recent “Scary Movie 5” was released in 2013. This new film is the sixth installment in the series.
“We are extremely excited to be involved in the production of the new ‘Scary Movie’ and to collaborate with each other again. This is a series we created more than 20 years ago. We remember people laughing out loud in the aisles and hope to see that again,” Marlon, Sean, and Keenen said in a statement.
According to the plan, the new “Scary Movie” will start filming in 2025 and will be released in theaters later.
