The Marlon Brando biopic “Waltz with Brando” has debuted its first trailer. Billy Zane, known for his role in “Titanic,” will portray Brando at the peak of his career. The film also features Jon Heder, Richard Dreyfuss, Tia Carrere, and Camille Rassat.
Directed and written by Bill Fishman, this independent biopic is adapted from Bernard Judge’s memoir. It tells the story of Marlon Brando in the early 1970s as he ambitiously aimed to create a self-sufficient paradise on the secluded island of Tetiaroa in Tahiti. At that time, Brando (played by Billy Zane), already Hollywood’s most renowned actor, was preparing to film “The Godfather” and “Last Tango in Paris.” He purchased a small, inhospitable island in Tahiti, hoping to escape the hectic life of a movie star and show the world how to achieve sustainability. For this purpose, Brando convinced the unknown but idealistic Los Angeles architect Bernard Judge (played by Jon Heder) to step out of his stable life and join him on the island to strive to turn it into the world’s first truly sustainable eco-resort.
The film will recreate many of Brando’s glorious moments and is described as “a love letter to Tahiti” by Billy Zane. It also praises the actor’s pioneering spirit as an activist. “At that time, no one would touch on his career. He supported civil rights and marched with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He acted for civil rights and for indigenous rights. No one knows what he did for the environment as an activist and his foresight on the climate crisis.”
It is reported that the biopic “Waltzing with Brando” will premiere at the Turin Film Festival on November 30 and is expected to be released in North America in 2025.
