As fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) anxiously anticipate the debut of Miles Morales in live-action, there may be glimmers of hope on the horizon. Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4 movie is slated to begin production in the summer of 2025, and while it remains to be seen how much longer Holland will continue to play the web-slinger, the possibility of Miles Morales making an appearance grows more tantalizing. Although Miles was mentioned in Spider-Man: Homecoming, that Easter egg could soon evolve into a significant live-action presence.
In a recent interview, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige shed light on when Miles might make his highly anticipated live-action arrival in the MCU. While highlighting Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse as Miles’ next major outing, Feige offered an update that has fans buzzing. He stated, “Miles will appear in the third ‘Spider-Verse’ movie, which is in production. I hope that, shortly after that, he can enter the MCU in live-action.” This statement not only gives fans a potential timeline but also raises questions about the future of the Spider-Man franchise within the MCU.
Feige’s commentary indicates that Sony Pictures, which holds the character rights to Miles Morales, is rightfully prioritizing the character for the finale of the Spider-Verse trilogy. The Spider-Verse movies have played a crucial role in bringing greater awareness of Miles to a wider audience. It makes sense that Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse would be the prime place for him to shine next before considerations for his live-action counterpart come into play. This approach allows for a proper build-up and continuation of his story in the animated realm before transitioning to the live-action MCU.
However, Feige’s statement could also be a sign that a deal between Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios regarding Miles’ integration into the MCU timeline has not yet been fully formed. Currently, with Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios’ focus on live-action Spider-Man stories centered around Spider-Man 4, Peter Parker will likely continue to hold the spotlight for the foreseeable future. But there remains the possibility that after the conclusion of The Multiverse Saga, the MCU could find a more natural point to bring Miles Morales into the fold and finally tell his unique story.
From a fan perspective, while it would be incredibly exciting to see Miles Morales in live-action sooner rather than later, it is crucial that Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures do not rush his debut. Given Miles’ popularity and the significance of his character, his live-action introduction must be carefully crafted and executed at the right time. The MCU should take the time to establish his place within the franchise properly. Until then, fans around the world will have to wait patiently and see how Miles Morales will receive his MCU treatment and when that momentous event will finally occur.
