Anthony Mackie, known for his role as Sam Wilson in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and appearances in various other projects, has a new movie called Elevation. Directed by George Nolfi and co-starring Morena Baccarin and Maddie Hasson, the film is set in a post-apocalyptic world where monsters lurk below 8,000 feet. Mackie plays Will, a single father on a dangerous adventure to save his son. Reviews for Elevation are middling to negative, with a 54% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

As of Sunday morning, Elevation is projected to earn just $1.2 million over the 3-day opening weekend, debuting outside the domestic top 10. With only 1,416 theaters, which is relatively few for a wide release, its per-screen average is also low at $837. In comparison, the top and bottom 200 per-screen averages of all time are significantly higher.

Ultimately, this opening weekend may not greatly affect Mackie’s prospects. The film’s $18 million budget means it could become profitable through streaming success even if it doesn’t break even in theaters. Additionally, Mackie is the lead in the upcoming Captain America: Brave New World, which, despite a shaky time for the franchise, seems likely to make several hundred million dollars based on the MCU’s precedent. This should help solidify his status as a bankable leading star.
