Kevin Feige offers hope for Deadpool and Wolverine’s return after their film’s success. The future looks promising for the beloved characters.
Deadpool & Wolverine was a massive hit for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The reunion of Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine and Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool led to huge box office returns and became the highest-grossing R-rated film of all time. Fans are clamoring for more, and Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige addressed the possibility in an interview. Feige said, “The plans with Deadpool and Wolverine will always be the same: we’re always wondering where we can fit them in, and how fast.”
Although Feige didn’t confirm any future projects, it sounds like discussions are happening. The film ended with the duo back in Deadpool’s universe, but Avengers: Secret Wars could bring them into the MCU’s 616 continuity. The success of Deadpool & Wolverine and the audience’s love for the characters make their appearance in future Avengers movies likely. Feige and Marvel Studios are considering the story and how their inclusion can serve the MCU.
Beyond creative reasons, the financial incentive is significant. Deadpool & Wolverine is highly profitable for an R-rated film and among the MCU’s most lucrative outings. All three Deadpool films and Jackman’s Wolverine have been audience favorites. The MCU should capitalize on these bankable stars. A follow-up to Deadpool & Wolverine makes sense both creatively and financially.
