Dev Patel, in his directorial debut with “Monkey Man” this year, has shared how the film was saved from studio meddling. The action film follows a man seeking vengeance for his mother’s murder. Patel not only directed but also starred, with a strong supporting cast.
In an interview, Patel disclosed that director Garth Davis, known for “Lion,” came to his rescue during the edit period. The movie had a bumpy production journey, initially set for Netflix but later released by Universal on April 5 to positive reviews and making over $35 million worldwide.
While Jordan Peele was key in getting the thriller to the screen, Davis was crucial for its artistic refinement. Their collaboration, likely bolstered by past work on “Lion,” was successful again. Hopefully, they’ll team up for more projects in the future.
