The highly anticipated final season of The Boys is officially set to begin production, with showrunner Eric Kripke confirming that filming will commence in less than two weeks. Following the shocking conclusion of season 4, which left fans questioning the fate of several key characters, the Emmy-nominated superhero satire is preparing to wrap up its run on Prime Video.
Speaking at a recent For Your Consideration event, Kripke shared the exciting news, revealing that the crew will start shooting The Boys season 5 “a week from Monday,” marking the beginning of the final chapter in the series. Despite the hectic production schedule, Kripke admitted that the emotional weight of concluding the show hasn’t fully hit him yet. “I’m fortunate in that I get to maintain my denial for quite a while because I’m so busy right now,” he said. “But I think somewhere in the middle of the season, it’s gonna hit me… and it’s gonna hit me really emotionally.”
The final season of The Boys will address numerous unresolved storylines, including the darker side of Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) and the evolving dynamics between Homelander (Antony Starr) and Sister Sage (Susan Heyward). However, fans will have to wait for a while before the series delivers its explosive conclusion. Kripke previously mentioned that the final season likely won’t premiere until 2026, due to the extensive visual effects work required for the series and the ongoing production of Gen V season 2, which is slated for release in 2025.
While plot details remain under wraps, The Boys season 5 has already teased the addition of Hamilton star Daveed Diggs to the cast, although his character’s role is still unknown. With a lengthy filming process ahead, fans can expect more casting news and behind-the-scenes updates as production ramps up.
Kripke’s decision to bring the series to a close while it remains a fan favorite is a rare move in the world of television, but it underscores the show’s commitment to delivering a satisfying conclusion. As The Boys prepares for its final season, excitement is already building, with the cast and crew heading back to set for what promises to be an unforgettable farewell.
