The Wild Robot is nearing all-time hit status after reaching a significant box office milestone. Adapted from a children’s book, the DreamWorks movie follows robot Roz raising an orphaned gosling on a desert island.
It debuted with $35.8 million and has since climbed to $300.5 million worldwide, just $15.2 million from outgrossing Suzume to enter the top 100 animated movies of all time.
Given its great reviews and small week-on-week drops, it’s likely to reach the top 100 soon. However, with Moana 2’s upcoming debut, The Wild Robot will need to hold its position.
Even if it reaches the top 100, it’s already proven itself. Costing $78 million, it’s already a hit, and its success plus Oscar buzz suggest more installments in the franchise are likely.
