‘Star Wars’ Fixes 5-Year Plot Hole with Cal Kestis’ New Force Power

by Barbara Miller

Star Wars has now subtly accounted for the “sense echoes” in Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor, resolving a long-bugging plot hole. The Respawn Jedi games focus on Cal Kestis and his allies, with “echoes” being a key lore element. While it seemed related to psychometry, George Mann’s audiobook Seeds of Starlight gives a canon explanation.

Certain events create Force “echoes” that some Force-sensitives can detect. Jedi with psychometry have an edge in interpreting them. The prequel-era Jedi feared psychometry, which may explain its absence then.

Now it’s clear that strong emotions are key to Force Echoes, as seen with Ahsoka Tano. The idea of events leaving imprints in the Force is consistent with lore.

While the “sense echo” ability was fine in the games, its increasing commonness elsewhere was confusing. Mann’s audiobook fixes this, integrating the Jedi games’ lore into the broader Star Wars narrative, and it’s also an exciting read.
