Bill Hader recently revealed that his daughter wasn’t particularly impressed with It Chapter 2 after watching it. The first It movie, released in 2017, focused on the Losers Club as children facing the terror of Pennywise. The 2019 sequel, which featured a 27-year time jump, saw Hader take on the role of the adult Richie Tozier.
While It Chapter 2 garnered a mixed reception, with critics divided on its effectiveness, Hader’s daughter shared her straightforward opinion after watching the film at a sleepover: she felt the first movie was better.
Mixed Reception for It Chapter 2
It Chapter 2 saw the return of the sinister Pennywise, this time targeting the adult Losers Club, portrayed by an ensemble cast that included Jessica Chastain and James McAvoy. Despite the star power, the sequel scored just 62% on Rotten Tomatoes, a sharp decline from the first film’s 85%. Critics cited the film’s heavy focus on scares at the expense of character development, making it harder for audiences to connect with the adult versions of the beloved characters.
The Verdict on It Chapter 2
Although Hader’s daughter’s opinion aligns with many critics, It Chapter 2 still holds its place as an engaging horror sequel. The film explores Pennywise’s origin and delivers plenty of chilling moments. While it may not surpass the first movie’s impact, it remains an entertaining and worthwhile entry in the horror genre.
