Netflix, which has steadily expanded its global reach since 2010, has built a diverse library of original non-English films and series. Among its most popular releases is Troll, a Norwegian-language monster film that became the streaming giant’s most-watched non-English movie with 103 million views.
Now, Netflix has confirmed that a sequel, Troll 2, is set for release in 2025. The original 2022 film, directed by Roar Uthaug and written by Espen Aukan, centered on a team attempting to stop an ancient troll awakened from its slumber. The cast included Ine Marie Wilmann and others.
For Troll 2, Uthaug and Aukan are returning to helm the sequel, with cast members like Gard B. Eidsvold and Kim Falck reprising their roles. New additions to the cast include Sara Khorami and Jon Ketil Johnsen.
What to Expect from Troll 2
While the original Troll had its share of criticisms, including a predictable plot and uneven performances, its strong viewership suggests it struck a chord with audiences. With the same creative team and returning cast, Troll 2 could build on its predecessor’s strengths, enhancing its mythology, action sequences, and visual effects.
Looking Ahead: Troll 2’s 2025 Prospects
With familiar faces behind and in front of the camera, Troll 2 has the potential to capitalize on the original’s success. The sequel could improve upon the first film’s weaker points while offering an expanded storyline that continues to captivate viewers with thrilling action and stunning visuals.
