Buffalo 8 unveils official trailer for the first installment of a futuristic “Aladdin” trilogy.
Buffalo 8 has released an official trailer for Aladdin 3477: The Jinn of Wisdom, a highly anticipated indie sci-fi fantasy film, slated for a direct-to-VOD release in January 2025. Directed by Matt Busch, this marks the first chapter in a planned trilogy that reimagines the classic Arabian Nights tale with a darker, more futuristic twist.
Set 1,500 years in the future, Aladdin 3477 diverges significantly from the beloved Disney version. In this live-action adaptation, the familiar story takes on a serious tone, removing the whimsical elements like a singing blue genie in favor of a more mature, cinematic experience. “The storyline is much different than the Disney animated version most are familiar with,” Busch explained. “This live-action take is darker in tone… These films will resemble more of a Star Wars look and feel, with an epic scale of action and cinematic wonder.”
Filming for the project has spanned a decade, with locations across the globe contributing to the expansive world-building. The trilogy was also partially funded through a successful Kickstarter campaign, showcasing the dedication and passion behind the project.
The film stars Erik Steele as Aladdin, a resourceful thief from Hong Kong, whose obsession with Princess Kamala (played by Christi Perovski) sparks a globe-trotting adventure. Along the way, Aladdin encounters an enigmatic ancient sage, The Jinn of Wisdom (portrayed by Lin Zy, Jerry Hayes, and Aaron Golematis). The movie’s aesthetic draws comparisons to the grand, sweeping scale of Star Wars and Indiana Jones, with a sense of adventure akin to Lord of the Rings.
Busch, who makes his feature directorial debut with Aladdin 3477: The Jinn of Wisdom, has long been involved in the entertainment industry as a pop culture artist. The trilogy is expected to continue with sequels Aladdin 3477 – II and Aladdin 3477 – III.
Produced by Ric Viers, Lin Zy, and Matt Busch, the first film in the series will be released on VOD in the US on January 3, 2025. Fans of dark sci-fi and epic adventure can look forward to the film’s release next year, with more details available on the official website.
