Lucy Lawless, who portrayed Ruby Knowby in the “Ash Vs Evil Dead” TV series, has provided an intriguing glimpse into the future of the iconic “Evil Dead” franchise, including a possible animated revival.
Lawless’ Role in the Original Series
Lawless played Ruby, a character with mysterious connections to the Necronomicon and its demonic forces. Although Ruby clashed with Bruce Campbell’s Ash throughout the series, she met her end in the third and final season of Ash Vs Evil Dead on STARZ.
Her Thoughts on a Return
In a recent interview, Lawless reflected on her unexpected return for each season of the series. When asked about the potential for an animated revival, she stopped short of providing a clear answer. However, she did confirm that new Evil Dead films are on the way, with a legal hurdle currently being addressed. Lawless anticipates the release of at least two movies in the coming years.
What This Means for the Franchise
While Ruby’s return in the animated series seems unlikely due to her character’s fate in the original series, the confirmation of upcoming films is good news for Evil Dead fans. Following the success of Evil Dead Rise in 2023, two new standalone films are now in development, although some rights-related challenges are still being worked out.
Looking Ahead
The future of Evil Dead appears bright, with the potential to compete with other major horror franchises like Saw and The Conjuring Universe. While the timeline for the next two films remains unclear, the franchise’s momentum is undeniable. As for the animated project, fans are hopeful it will come to fruition, and it would be exciting to see Lawless take on a new role—perhaps even one with her natural accent.
