Taylor Sheridan, the prolific creator behind several successful TV series, continues to make waves in the entertainment industry. Known for his work on the highly acclaimed Western drama Yellowstone, Sheridan’s recent focus on TV has led to a string of hits, including spin-offs like 1923 and 1883. But Yellowstone is far from his only ongoing project.
Sheridan has also made his mark with Mayor of Kingstown, starring Jeremy Renner, and Tulsa King, featuring Sylvester Stallone. Both series have received positive attention, with Tulsa King wrapping up its second season this fall.
Now, Sheridan’s latest series, Landman, is making headlines by setting a streaming debut record. Based on the podcast Boom Town by Christian Wallace, Landman takes a deep dive into the modern oil industry in West Texas, showcasing the perspectives of both oil executives and the residents impacted by their operations. The cast includes Billy Bob Thornton, Ali Larter, Jon Hamm, Jacob Lofland, Michelle Randolph, and James Jordan.
Landman garnered an impressive 5.2 million cross-platform viewers on its debut, making it the largest premiere for a Paramount+ series in two years. This places it alongside 1923 and Tulsa King as one of the top three biggest TV launches in the streaming service’s history. Moreover, its three-day debut marked the best domestic launch for Paramount+ in recent memory.
With such strong numbers, a second season renewal for Landman seems almost inevitable, though only two of its ten episodes have aired thus far. While the show currently holds a 66% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes—slightly lower than some of Sheridan’s other hits but better than 1923—its success further solidifies Sheridan’s status as a powerhouse in television.
Notably, all three of Paramount+’s top premieres are Sheridan creations, underscoring his influential role in the entertainment world. With a slew of upcoming projects, including Yellowstone spin-offs and other new series, Sheridan shows no signs of slowing down.
