The long-awaited season 3 of Yellowjackets is officially set to premiere on February 14, 2025, with two new episodes. The upcoming season will introduce new characters, played by Joel McHale and Hilary Swank, with Swank taking on a recurring role in an undisclosed capacity. The Showtime thriller is poised to move forward after the death of Natalie “Nat” Scatorccio, though there is no update regarding the previously teased bonus episode.
Matt Webb Mitovich of TVLine was asked about the missing episode, which had been speculated to air between seasons. His response was clear: “You are 100% correct,” confirming that the bonus episode is no longer in the plans. The series’ recent press materials have made no mention of the episode, and Paramount+, the show’s streaming home, declined to comment.
What Was the Missing Bonus Episode About?
Back in June 2023, Yellowjackets co-creator Ashley Lyle teased the bonus episode, confirming it would air before the start of season 3. However, no further details were revealed. The bonus episode had been expected to feature a guest appearance by Jason Ritter, husband of star Melanie Lynskey. Set photos had suggested Ritter could appear as the person who occupied the wilderness shelter before the plane crash. This potential storyline would have tied into the series’ season 2 finale, where the shelter was destroyed in a fire.
Shifting Focus to the Future
With the loss of Juliette Lewis (adult Nat) from the cast and a somewhat subdued response to season 2, it appears the Yellowjackets team is focusing on the future of the show rather than exploring the gaps between seasons. As the co-creators embark on their press tour for season 3, fans can expect further clarification on the scrapped bonus episode.
