‘Superman & Lois’ Star on Final Season’s Costume & Suiting Up

by Barbara Miller

Following the Superman & Lois series finale, Alex Garfin shares about a key moment in the final episode where the Super-Sons got official costumes. The season 4 finale ended the Arrowverse. Garfin opened up about filming the flash-forward moment of the Superboys suiting up. He described wearing a black leotard and a harness that lifted his crotch area, which was embarrassing when executives showed up. He also explained that the Superboys’ superhero suits concept art was for a proof of concept in case the show went beyond season 4, as making actual suits was costly.

What Garfin’s comments mean for the finale is that Superman & Lois season 4 had major budget cuts. The episode order was reduced, and original cast members weren’t brought back as regulars. Given the VFX aspects and the show’s circumstances, producing new superhero costumes was likely unaffordable. Making such costumes is very cost-demanding, especially for a show like this, and with both Warner Bros. TV and The CW cutting costs, it made sense not to make actual suits for just the ending.

It’s nice he’s satisfied with carrying the House of El symbol in the final episode despite not wearing actual costumes. While it would have been fun to see the concept art costumes in live-action, it doesn’t detract from the ambitious work put into Superman & Lois season 4 and the end of the Arrowverse.
