Secret Level, an upcoming animated anthology series from Tim Miller’s Blur Studios (the team behind Netflix’s “Love, Death + Robots”), has released a new teaser trailer for its Pac-Man episode. Set to stream on Prime Video, the series features episodes set in various video game worlds like Armored Core, Dungeons & Dragons, and Pac-Man.
The Pac-Man teaser shows a dark take on the character, with Pac-Man struggling to survive in a monster-infested world where it’s “Eat or be eaten”. The show’s executive producer previously said creating this episode felt like “disemboweling people’s childhoods”.
What the Pac-Man teaser means for Secret Level is that, like “Love, Death + Robots”, it won’t be for young audiences. While Pac-Man has a simple premise originally, the show isn’t afraid to stretch game worlds for complex stories. Other adapted games might be more recognizable story-wise.
When the Pac-Man episode was announced, it wasn’t clear how it would work given the game’s simplicity. But this darker approach fits the show’s creative direction. It could explore deep themes about existence within an animated adventure. While it remains to be seen how audiences will respond, it looks like an exciting new project.
