Jason Statham, a renowned action movie star, has one of his underrated 2008 sci-fi action thrillers, “Death Race”, making waves on a new streaming platform. Statham rose to fame through roles in Guy Ritchie’s films and went on to star in numerous action hits like “The Transporter” trilogy and “The Expendables” franchise.
“Death Race”, directed by Paul W. S. Anderson and a remake of a 1975 cult classic, co-starring Joan Allen, Tyrese Gibson, and Ian McShane, had a so-so box office performance back then and didn’t launch a franchise. However, just four days after landing on Max, it’s climbed to #8 on the streamer’s Top 10 Movies Today chart.
The film offers explosive escapism. Despite its mixed reviews (41% Tomatometer and 60% Popcornmeter) and lack of franchise status, it’s a great option for viewers seeking a break from festive stress. It’s part of Statham’s streaming renaissance this fall, with several of his movies doing well on various platforms. And with more films in the pipeline for Statham, it’s a good time for fans to revisit his work on streaming.
