In the upcoming Paramount+ (with Showtime) series “Dexter: Original Sin”, Patrick Gibson will play a young Dexter Morgan. Michael C. Hall, who played Dexter in the original show, will return as the narrator and Dexter’s inner voice.
At Paramount’s CCXP panel in Brazil, Gibson said Hall was pleased with what he saw at the table read, which was a relief. This approval matters as audiences will closely compare Gibson’s portrayal to Hall’s, especially since Hall often played Dexter in his young adult years in the original show’s flashbacks.
What Hall’s blessing means for the prequel is that it’s crucial for its success given the direct comparison audiences will make. And while Gibson has the role now, Hall will likely reclaim it in the expected sequel series “Dexter: Resurrection”.
While Gibson is taking on the role for now, Hall remains the iconic face of Dexter for many viewers. Gibson will pass the baton back as Hall is set to return in person in the future sequel, and Gibson’s stint might even set up the story for Hall’s comeback.
