Leonardo DiCaprio’s career boasts countless unforgettable moments, from Titanic to Inception and The Revenant. However, one of his most memorable scenes, from Baz Luhrmann’s 2013 adaptation of The Great Gatsby, occurred by pure coincidence.
Producer Lucy Fisher revealed that during preparations for the scene where Gatsby meets Daisy, the production team was met with unexpected, relentless rain at the shooting location. The downpour persisted through multiple attempts to shoot the scene, prompting the decision to embrace the weather. DiCaprio, drenched, filmed the iconic moment in the rain, adding an unexpected layer of drama to the scene.
The Great Gatsby, which stars DiCaprio alongside Tobey Maguire and Carey Mulligan, is currently available for streaming on Prime Video.
Rain has long been used as a cinematic tool to enhance emotional moments, and in this film, it not only intensifies the drama but also sets Luhrmann’s adaptation apart from F. Scott Fitzgerald’s original novel. With its blend of visual spectacle, musical anachronisms, and such serendipitous moments, the film remains a standout reimagining of the classic story.
