Aaron Taylor-Johnson Shares Reflections on Playing Quicksilver in the MCU

by Barbara Miller

In a recent conversation, Aaron Taylor-Johnson opened up about his time as Pietro Maximoff/Quicksilver in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, specifically in “Avengers: Age of Ultron” released back in 2015. At that time, fans were eagerly awaiting the debut of both Quicksilver and his sister, Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch. Interestingly, just a year prior, Taylor-Johnson’s fellow Kick-Ass star Evan Peters had played an alternate version of Quicksilver in “X-Men: Days of Future Past”.

Taylor-Johnson’s Quicksilver made a heroic sacrifice to save Clint Barton/Hawkeye in the MCU and didn’t reappear after that. However, he holds no ill will towards Peters. In fact, he recounted a moment at a comic-con where they met among the X-Men lineup and shared a realization of how lucky they were to play the character in different universes. He also praised Peters’ portrayal, highlighting aspects like the unique connections his Quicksilver had within the X-Men franchise related to Magneto.

Taylor-Johnson is clearly proud of his own stint as Quicksilver. When presented with action figures of himself and Elizabeth Olsen (who played Scarlet Witch), he described the experience as mind-blowing and overwhelming. He addressed the highs and lows of the fame that came with the role, noting how they seemed to balance each other out.

What his comments signify is that despite only having that one appearance as Quicksilver in the MCU, Taylor-Johnson speaks positively about the experience. He didn’t focus on Peters having more roles in the character’s iterations. Currently, with a busy slate of upcoming films and a focus on his family, he seems content with his career path.

Moreover, Taylor-Johnson had kind words for Olsen, calling her a phenomenal actor and a wonderful person. He pointed out their on-screen connections in different projects, like playing siblings in “Avengers: Age of Ultron” and husband and wife in “Godzilla”. He even humorously wondered why she didn’t use her reality-warping powers to resurrect his character.

Overall, it appears that Taylor-Johnson truly enjoyed his time in the MCU. It’s possible he was aware of his character’s fate before joining the cast. Regardless, his performance as Quicksilver was memorable, and should he ever decide to reprise the role, it would surely be a welcome addition to the MCU.
