Retired Green Beret David Harris has reviewed the action scenes in the Oscar-winning Indian film RRR, noting its blend of over-the-top stunts with a single realistic detail. RRR, a 2022 historical action film about Indian revolutionary figures, was praised as one of the best action films of the year. Its song “Naatu Naatu” won the Oscar for Best Original Song, marking a significant achievement for Indian cinema at the Academy Awards.
While India has been submitting films for the Best International Feature Film category for two decades, its presence at the Oscars has been inconsistent. RRR’s impact, however, was undeniable, with its larger-than-life action sequences captivating audiences worldwide.
Harris focused on a standout scene in RRR where the character Bheem shoots arrows equipped with grenades. While he acknowledged that attaching a grenade to an arrow is physically plausible, he criticized the scene’s unrealistic elements, such as fiery explosions flipping vehicles and motorcycles. He rated the sequence 3 out of 10 for real-world accuracy.
Despite the exaggerated action, Harris noted that the arrow-grenade combination, though improbable, adds a surprising touch of realism to the film’s otherwise fantastical sequences. While not entirely grounded in reality, RRR’s action remains thrilling and engaging, contributing to the film’s Oscar success and widespread acclaim.
