Percy Jackson Season 2 Welcomes Four New Stars

by Barbara Miller

The highly anticipated second season of “Percy Jackson & the Olympians” on Disney+ is expanding its cast with four new faces. Based on Rick Riordan’s bestselling fantasy novels, the series follows 12-year-old demigod Percy Jackson, portrayed by Walker Scobell, as he traverses a modern world filled with Greek mythology while uncovering his destiny as the son of Poseidon. Season 2 is set to adapt “The Sea of Monsters”, where Percy embarks on a dangerous quest alongside Annabeth (Leah Jeffries) to retrieve the Golden Fleece, encountering a host of new foes and friends along the way.

The four new stars joining the cast are as follows. Rosemarie DeWitt (known for her roles in “The Boys” and “Mad Men”) will make a guest appearance as C.C., a stylish New Age-esque guru that Percy and his companions will meet during their quest. Aleks Paunovic (“Snowpiercer”, “Van Helsing”) will take on the role of the cyclops Polyphemus, who stands guard over the prized Golden Fleece. Kevin Chacon (“Jessica Jones”) will replace Andrew Alvarez in the role of another son of Hermes, Chris Rodriguez. Meanwhile, Beatrice Kitsos (“iZombie”) will round out the cast as the newly created character Alison Simms, described as “a Camp Half-Blood ‘graduate’ who lives in the human world, but is a true believer in the world Kronos is promising” and who teams up with Luke.

What these new cast members mean for Percy Jackson season 2 is that they could potentially shake things up at Camp Half-Blood. Their addition continues to expand Rick Riordan’s mythological universe from the series. Key antagonists from the second book are being brought to life, like Paunovic’s portrayal of the ancient cyclops Polyphemus, who was blinded by Odysseus, and DeWitt’s C.C., whose seemingly carefree demeanor likely masks something far more menacing for Percy and Annabeth to discover during their journey to reclaim the Golden Fleece. Fortunately, they’ll have an ally in Percy’s half-brother and cyclops, Tyson, played by Daniel Diemer.

As Luke’s following grows among disillusioned half-bloods and demigods, Kronos’ promise of absolute power heightens the stakes for the young heroes in season 2. Kitsos’ character, Alison Simms, a series-exclusive creation and former Camp Half-Blood graduate, adheres to Kronos’s vision of a new Golden Age, though only for those willing to serve him. With the divide among demigods widening, the sophomore season of this fantasy series seems set to adhere to the ever-shifting loyalties characteristic of Greek mythology and draw Percy even closer to the consequences of the Oracle’s Great Prophecy.

The new cast members for Percy Jackson season 2 is an exciting development. From new gods to shady gurus, the casting announcements suggest the series is committed to delivering a rich adaptation of “The Sea of Monsters”. The addition of Luke’s ally, Alison, is particularly fascinating as it could open up fresh storytelling avenues for the Disney+ adaptation. With a blend of beloved returning characters and exciting new additions, season two of “Percy Jackson & the Olympians” is shaping up to be a thrilling continuation. The stakes are raised, the cast is enhanced, and the potential for epic mythological adventures has reached new heights.
