An exciting new image from the upcoming 2025 action thriller “Novocaine” has been unveiled. The movie stars Jack Quaid, known for his role in “The Boys”, as Nathan Caine, a bank executive with an extraordinary trait – he’s impervious to physical pain. When his girlfriend, played by Amber Midthunder, is kidnapped, Nathan abandons his ordinary life and decides to leverage his inability to feel pain to rescue the love of his life. The cast of “Novocaine” also includes Ray Nicholson, Betty Gabriel, Matt Walsh, Lou Beatty Jr., Evan Hengst, Conrad Kemp, and Jacob Batalon.
ScreenRant has now shared an exclusive first-look image from the film. In the image, Quaid’s character, Nathan, is seated in the driver’s seat of a car, looking visibly alarmed. He’s holding a gun in one hand while fixated on a laptop. Notably, the forefinger on his hand is stained with dried blood, which could either be his own or that of someone he’s encountered during his quest to find and save his kidnapped girlfriend.
“Novocaine” appears to be a perfect fit for Jack Quaid. There are numerous parallels between Nathan and Quaid’s character from “The Boys”, Hughie Campbell. In “The Boys”, Hughie often finds himself covered in blood, in situations that are beyond his control, and dealing with ruthless adversaries. Moreover, Nathan’s motivation to save his girlfriend echoes Hughie’s initial drive to seek justice for his girlfriend who was murdered by a supe. In the revealed image, it’s possible that Nathan is seeing his kidnapped girlfriend on the laptop, which would explain his panicked expression.
However, there are also differences between the two characters. While Nathan will use weapons as seen in the image, he’ll also engage in hand-to-hand combat, making him more of an action hero than Hughie. One significant distinction of “Novocaine” compared to “The Boys” is that in this movie, Nathan gets to be the hero and the undisputed star of the story. “The Boys” is an ensemble series where Hughie isn’t always in the spotlight. In “Novocaine”, Nathan has to rely solely on himself and his unique “superpower” of not feeling pain, without the support of a team of allies like Hughie has in the Prime Video show.
Among the many action movies set to release in 2025, “Novocaine” stands out as one of the most exciting. While numerous highly anticipated action films are part of established franchises and feature seasoned action heroes, “Novocaine” has its own allure. It’s an original story, not tied to an ongoing franchise, which gives it a fresh appeal. Nathan is also a compelling character, as he’s a novice when it comes to being an action hero, yet his inability to feel pain makes him a unique threat. The tense and comedic scenarios that can stem from this setup are captivating, making “Novocaine” a must-see movie in 2025.
