Disney’s upcoming live-action “Snow White” remake has shared a new clip that gives fans a closer look at an original song. The movie stars Rachel Zegler as the eponymous princess, with Gal Gadot, known for her role as Wonder Woman, taking on the part of the Evil Queen. Directed by Marc Webb and co-written by Greta Gerwig, this “Snow White” is part of Disney’s expanding collection of live-action remakes. Initially set for a March 2024 release, it was postponed to March 21, 2025, due to the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes.
On X (formerly Twitter), Disney has provided a preview of “Waiting On a Wish”, an original song performed by Zegler and created specifically for the 2025 film. The song commences with lyrics that explain how Snow was told by her father that she was born during a fierce snowstorm, which is the origin of her name in this iteration of the story. As it progresses, she sings about her longing to escape the confines of the castle and her hope for a miracle that will allow her to become the person she’s meant to be.
What this means for Disney’s “Snow White” is that “Waiting On a Wish” showcases why Rachel Zegler was the perfect casting choice. The clip hints that Zegler’s acting prowess and vocal abilities will be among the remake’s strongest assets. In her previous films like “The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes”, “West Side Story”, and “Spellbound”, her characters truly shine whenever they sing, and it’s likely to be the same in “Snow White”. Zegler’s remarkable singing and acting talents are both evident in “Waiting On a Wish”, which was penned by Benji Pasek and Justin Paul.
The song does more than just disclose details about Snow’s past; it also helps to elaborate on her inner turmoil and her overarching aspirations. While the movie will incorporate many classic elements from the 1937 animated “Snow White”, it has also discovered ways to modernize and enrich the story. “Waiting On a Wish” appears to be a prime example of this, as it deepens our understanding of the character in ways that the original version didn’t.
“Waiting On a Wish” clip makes the “Snow White” remake seem more promising compared to other Disney live-action remakes. Despite the controversies that have surrounded the movie in the lead-up to its release, this clip is an encouraging sign that it will break new ground rather than simply replicate its animated predecessor. Many of Disney’s live-action remakes have struggled to set themselves apart from the original animated films, but “Waiting On a Wish” and other new original songs have the potential to make this “Snow White” remake feel fresh and justified.
